Welcome to my humble blog.
I’m a Singaporean currently working in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia; and had been here since 2012, when I was studying for my degree. When I first landed in Brisbane, I thought to myself, “What have I done” – because all I saw were trees.
And more trees.
By then, there was nothing much I could do so I just made the best of what there was, or at least I tried to. Fast forward 6 years, I finally graduated and started working at one of Brisbane’s metropolitan hospitals.
Free time and hobbies
While I was studying, I didn’t have a lot of free time. Weekends and holidays were spent studying, and I was barely passing my exams. I had always wondered how my classmates managed to party the weekend before an exam and managed to get 7.0/7.0 for their GPA. I never thought of myself as a smart person, but rather, a hardworking person; and I guess, for the first time, I witnessed what being smart is like. It wasn’t demoralising because I had no time to be demoralised. Hur hur.
Life after working was slightly better in that I do not have to study. Yet. It will be awhile before I have to start preparing for my diploma/specialty training exams, and it’ll be another period of mindless studying all over again. I am not sure if I am looking forward to it, but I guess that’s how the system works. So, while I have some free time, I try to just chill for the time being.
I don’t have any hobbies as per se, but I do hope to take up photography again. I had, however, left my Nikon DSLR and lens back in Singapore, so it’ll be another trip to get all these back to Brisbane. My alternative is to get the Huawei P30 Pro – have you seen how incredible the photos look? However, I am more of a Samsung/Apple person, so I am not sure if I’d pick up a Huawei smartphone. Morevoer, there had been so much speculations about the Huawei software uploading our phone data to their own servers in China – so, perhaps, I’ll hold back on that for a while.
Plans for the future
Well, this is written in 2019, and so my immediate plan is just to get through this year and then try to get couple of postings in O&G next year, and maybe Neonatology. I love babies – they are just so adorable! However, the road to being a neonatologist is long and arduous – not that the road to being an obstetrician isn’t. But while there are many systems to know and understand in Neonatology or Paediatrics, we focus on just that smaller area in O&G. So, in the meantime, I’m just keeping my fingers crossed.
Why blog?
It’s been a super long time since I last blogged. Studying in university doesn”t really allow much time for me to blog. But with that new-found little free time that I have while I am working now, I thought it’ll be nice to chronicle parts of my life when I can find the time to. It’ll also help me channel away from unhappy thoughts. Besides, I thought it’ll be a nice way for my friends to keep up with what’s been happening in my life, and also to find out little known bits of my life and personality.
So I hope you’ll sit back, relax and share my life journey with me. Life is a surprise, but sometimes it can also be a rude shock. Haha.
