Happy Labour Day, Singapore!
While most of my mates (yeah, it’s an Aussie thing to call each other mates) in Singapore are probably enjoying their day off, I’m still working here in Brisbane, while I am still sick.
I had been down with laryngitis for a couple of days, and while I was thinking of taking some time off to rest, my consultants think I can still work as long as I still have a bit of voice left. No matter how sexy I now sound.
Oh well.
I did however avoid all the febrile neutropenic (read: very sick) children, and babies, because their immune system is the weakest and are most likely to catch something from me.
I had recently started developing a cough, and I thought it was quite embarrassing for me to be seeing them – and coughing at the same time. At least with my laryngitis, I could tell them that I had lost my voice from talking too much. With a cough, it’s hard to come up with an excuse.
Perhaps, “Oh, it’s getting a little smokey in here”.
I still have today and tomorrow left, before I am “on call” on Friday – when I hope I don’t get recalled back to work. The last time I was “on call”, the hospital called me the day before to return to work the next day. Somehow I have a weird feeling that I would be called back to work the night shift though. Sigh.
This morning, I woke up with a nagging itch at the back of my throat. I had been trying to hold my cough but eventually coughed out some green phlegm. I hope it’s not some secondary bacterial infection. I really hate to be on antibiotics – not to mention that this will lengthen the time that I am sick. I did try to breath in vapour from a cup of hot water to make my throat less dry, but I am not sure how much this would help.
Home remedies, anyone?
