Losing my iPad mini

Awhile back, I lost my iPad mini while travelling in the US. The punchline in this is that, I didn’t realise I lost it until it was almost a month later.

You see, I often keep my iPad mini at a corner of my carry-on luggage whenever I fly. The guys at the X-rays don’t usually ask me to take out the iPad mini for additional scanning, but apparently they did while I was at Atlanta. So in the end, they had to take out the iPad mini and send both my carry-on luggage and the iPad mini for a second scan.

The thing was, because I was so used to not having anything taken out of my carry-on luggage, the moment the luggage came out of the X-ray machine, I picked it up and left – leaving my iPad mini behind. The “joke” about this was that, I was early for my flight and I spent the next 2 hours walking around the airport, totally oblivious to the fact that I had left my iPad mini behind.

I only realised my iPad mini was missing when I was packing to return to Brisbane – and that was when I realised my iPad mini wasn’t in its usual place 🙁 It took me a long while to figure out if I could have left it behind at the Atlanta airport, or the New York airport -.-

At first, I didn’t want to file a missing item report, because it would have been way too long since it was lost. Moreover, there was a chance that someone could have picked it up.

The iPad mini do have special meanings to me though. I got it before I went to medical school and it accompanied me through many anatomy labs and withstood the test of time (and cleaning agents). I even got one of those LifeProof cases for it, which enabled it to survive many drops.

I now only hope that it has found a new home and is not being disposed of somewhere. To some extend, I guess I had developed sentimental feelings to it. Sometimes, I do miss my iPad mini… but oh well 🙁
